Like any job, it has it’s ups and downs. For me, I find it difficult when I am doing lots of lab work but it is worth it when you get to share the results and think about the importance of the work that you are doing in a wider context 🙂
it depends. some days it is the easiest thing in the world (all your experiments work you get wonderful results and it is just fun) .
Then there are the weeks and weeks of experiments not working and you cant figure out why. That can be hard but that tends to make me work harder to figure out the reasons.
So t can be a very rewarding career but also one of the most infuriating ones.
Sometimes. There’s quite a bit of uncertainty around about employment, funding etc. Moving countries, which I’ve done, is fun but also takes a toll on one’s social life and relationships. Often the work involves sending manuscripts for publication and applications for grant money and getting them back rejected. Then again, I suspect that no line of work is entirely free of stress and frustration. 🙂
